Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to attend memorial service of Jacques Delors in Paris 

At the invitation of French head of state Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will attend the memorial service of former president of the European Commission Jacques Delors in Paris, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief confirmed French press reports to the Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday.

Emmanuel Macron will preside over a national tribute ceremony to be held in honour of Jacques Delors in the Dome courtyard of Les Invalides from 11.00 a.m. on Friday. 

Former President of the European Commission Jacques Delors died at the end of December, aged 98. He was president of the EU’s executive body for 10 years, between 1985 and 1995, and played a key role in the creation of the euro and the development of the present form of the European Union. He was an important architect of – among others – the single market, the Schengen Area, the Erasmus programmes and the Common Agricultural Policy.
