As long as Ukraine fails to resume oil shipments, they will not receive gas from the direction of Hungary

As long as Ukraine fails to resume oil shipments to Hungary, they will not receive gas from the direction of Hungary. We will protect Hungary’s energy security, and will keep the capped price of petrol and the reduced price of household energy, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Facebook on Wednesday.

In a video posted on his social media account, Mr Orbán said at the cabinet meeting to begin shortly, he will table an important proposal.

He added: Ukraine has blocked the operation of the Druzhba crude oil pipeline for 30 days. “So far, we have successfully defended ourselves against the Ukrainian blackmail; thanks to protected, capped prices, Hungarians are paying the lowest prices at petrol stations in the whole of Europe,” but we must move a step forward, another measure is required in the interest of breaking the oil blockade and protecting Hungary’s safe energy supply.

Therefore, the government will gradually shut down gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine, and the quantity of gas remaining in Hungary will be stored here, the Prime Minister explained.

“As long as Ukraine fails to resume oil shipments to Hungary, they will not receive gas from the direction of Hungary. As meanwhile Ukraine is also attacking the southern gas pipeline supplying Hungary, we must start stockpiling. Therefore, instead of Ukrainian ones, we will now fill up Hungarian gas storage facilities. We will protect Hungary’s energy security, and will keep the capped price of petrol and the reduced price of household energy,” Mr Orbán.
