István Pásztor, who led the largest Hungarian party in Vojvodina for 16 years, died on 30 October aged 67, after a short, serious illness.
István Pásztor’s son, Bálint Pásztor is Vice President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, head of the party group in the National Assembly and President of the Szabadka (Subotica) City Municipal Board. The politician will remain the party’s acting president until the next general meeting of the Alliance.
At the Friday meeting, Mr Orbán and Mr Pásztor confirmed the alliance between the Hungarian government and the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians.
The president of the Vojvodina party informed the Prime Minister about the election campaign in Serbia and opportunities for the further development of Serbian-Hungarian relations which have greatly improved in recent years. In these efforts, the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians wishes to continue to play a constructive role.
The two leaders agreed on the continuation of the economic development programme in Vojvodina, and concurred that the commissioning of the Szeged-Szabadka railway line within the shortest possible time and the extension of the opening hours of minor border crossing points are key issues for the Hungarians of Vojvodina for which they will take joint action, Mr Havasi reported regarding the proceedings of the meeting.
