Ukraine’s EU membership is a bad decision, Hungary does not wish to take part in it

Ukraine’s EU membership is a bad decision, and Hungary does not wish to take part in that bad decision, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in a video posted on his social media account on Thursday.

In his message recorded in Brussels, during a break of the EU summit, the Prime Minister said Hungary’s position is clear, Ukraine is not ready for the commencement of talks with the European Union about EU membership.

Under such circumstances, starting talks with Ukraine is a completely unreasonable, irrational and incorrect decision, and Hungary will not change its position, the Prime Minister pointed out.

He said by contrast, the other 26 countries insisted on adopting this decision. Therefore, Hungary decided that if the 26 of them so decide, they should follow their own path, he stated. Hungary does not wish to share this flawed decision, and today Hungary has distanced itself from this decision, he said, informing members of the public.

Talks will continue with the amendment of the budget, Mr Orbán added.
