Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Kútvölgyi Hospital on fifth anniversary of outbreak of coronavirus pandemic

On the fifth anniversary of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán paid a visit to the Kútvölgyi Hospital where, in the company of Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller and others, he recalled measures introduced earlier, a video posted on Facebook on Friday reveals.

“We remembered the pandemic that broke out 5 years ago in the Kútvölgyi Hospital. Everything we have never said about the Covid pandemic. Sunday, 7.00 p.m. on my YouTube channel,” the trailer to the Prime Minister’s video reads.

In the documentary, in  the refurbished Kútvölgyi Hospital the Prime Minister recalled the beginning of the pandemic; the institution became the first quarantine hospital in Hungary five years ago.

Regarding the beginnings, Ms Müller said initially there was no way of knowing how long the pandemic would last and what consequences it would have. She highlighted that together with Hungarian experts, they decided to introduce lockdown measures already before the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the Chief Medical Officer, in Hungary it would have been inconceivable for anyone not to receive treatment in a medical institution.

Mr Orbán took the view that vaccinating as many people as possible was a key issue because this was the only way to manage the pandemic. The Prime Minister recalled that they were required to arrange the available capacities on the basis of a worst-case scenario.
