Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with leader of Hungarian party in Slovakia about combining forces

On Monday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister-President of Fidesz Viktor Orbán received Krisztián Forró,President and candidate for president of the republic of the Hungarian party of Upper Hungary (Slovakia), Hungarian Alliance, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the election of a new head of state in Slovakia due to be held on Saturday; in this context, they stressed the importance of unity and combining forces.

According to Mr Forró, this vote is not primarily about his person; it is about the Hungarians of Slovakia demonstrating that they exist, that they are here, and that Hungarian will be spoken in Upper Hungary in a thousand years’ time, too.

At the Monday meeting, the parties spoke about the importance of the Visegrád cooperation. They said, despite the differences, the V4 should seek the points on which they agree as they can achieve more if there are more of them combining forces.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Mr Orbán and Mr Forró urged a ceasefire and peace talks, and they both spoke up against sending arms or troops to Ukraine as this is absolutely contrary to the Hungarian national interests, Mr Havasi reported.
