Now we truly appreciate how precious peace and security are; we will preserve them

War in the East and war in the South. Now we truly appreciate how precious peace and security are. We will preserve them, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote in conjunction with a video he posted on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon, on the way to the NATO summit to be held in the Hague.

In the video, the Prime Minister said every war conveys risks. In the modern world, even wars waged thousands of kilometres away from us have minimum indirect impacts on our lives, if nothing else, through energy security as they push the prices of oil, gas and energy up, and so they also pose a threat to Hungarian living standards.

Since migration flooded Western Europe – which Hungary has luckily managed to keep itself out of – the threat of terrorism has been permanent in Europe. If something happens in the Middle East, the threat of terrorism increases everywhere in Europe, Mr Orbán added.

“While we are a migrant-free zone, there is such a threat, the threat of terrorism in our neighbourhood. Therefore, we ourselves can’t regard this as a zero threat. At times like this, we must adopt extraordinary measures which I did yesterday, and today, in the streets of Budapest, at airports and at busy transport junctions we can see the consequences; there are reinforced counter-terrorism measures in effect,” the Prime Minister said, relating details.
