Mothers of one under the age of 30 to receive personal income tax exemption

The goal of the government with the personal income tax exemption for mothers under the age of 30 years is to ensure that those who decide to have children should not find themselves financially worse off than those who do not, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated on Wednesday on his social media account.

In a video posted on his Facebook account, Mr Orbán said at least a dozen issues featured on the agenda of the cabinet meeting. The most important one was the decision adopted with respect to the personal income tax exemption of mothers under the age of 30 years raising one child due to take effect from 1 January 2026.

In answer to the question of whether they expect as a result of this measure that more children will be born, the Prime Minister said they do hope that more children will be born, but there is another, “perhaps plainer” goal, namely that “mothers who decide to have children and are raising children should not find themselves worse off financially than those who don’t.”
