The portal wrote: Mr Orbán stressed, in answer to questions from members of the press on Saturday on the flight back to Budapest, after his meeting with US President Donald Trump in the White House in Washington, regarding the agreement that should Hungary or its financial system be exposed to any external attack, “the Americans have given their word to protect Hungary’s financial stability in every such instance.”
The Prime Minister said it is very important that we can count on an American protective financial shield in the event that Hungary should sustain any attack serving speculative or political purposes. He added that “I’m calculating for the future accordingly. Good morning Brussels.”
“This way, we can confidently say that should an attack be launched against Hungary from any corner of the world (we should leave Brussels now), whether affecting our debtor rating or our credit rating, we have American assistance at our disposal to ward it off,” the Prime Minister said.
Mr Orbán stressed: we could also say that we have access to almost unlimited funding in America with which we can replace any Brussels funds.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Hungary did not need to abandon any overarching economic plans of strategic significance for the nation just because we need two to three more years to obtain every single forint from Brussels. He added that it was necessary neither to postpone, nor to reschedule these plans, “we can realise everything.”
According to Mr Orbán, this will also be reflected in the exchange rate of the forint and later in the terms of borrowing; however, Hungary’s position on the international financial market was much stronger than before already on the day after the negotiations. “The American protective financial shield reinforces us and creates a more favourable international financial situation for us,” the Prime Minister stated in answer to questions from members of the press.
