More threatening news came from Brussels today, as Ursula von der Leyen followed Manfred Weber in pledging allegiance to Ukraine: “…to support Ukraine’s military efforts…”. The President of the Commission announced that they’ll be sending even more money to Ukraine than before, and that she wants to involve the European Union even more deeply in the war in Ukraine. But this isn’t in Europe’s interest. Europe’s interest is to follow the United States and get out of the war. It’s in Europe’s interest to stop pouring the European people’s money into the bottomless pit of an unwinnable war. It’s in Europe’s interest that we only admit countries into the Union that will strengthen our community, not those that will bankrupt us. The Hungarian position is clear, and we stand by it: we don’t want the price of Ukraine’s accession to be paid by the Hungarian people. It’s time for the Commission to finally represent the Member States, instead of Ukraine.
