We’re in Antalya, Türkiye. I’m here to meet with President Erdoğan. Türkiye is a key partner for us. Our bilateral trade relationship exceeds four billion dollars, while within this we have an export surplus of more than one billion dollars. Moreover, because of Ukraine’s hostile attitude, Hungary’s gas supply from the east has been virtually cut off. At the beginning of this year the Ukrainians – in collusion with the bureaucrats in Brussels – shut down a major European gas pipeline running through their territory; this is how they’re trying to put pressure on the Slovaks and us, to force us into the Russo–Ukrainian war. Therefore we now have to get energy from the south instead of the east – and for us Türkiye is a key partner in this. Without TurkStream, Hungary’s energy security would be inconceivable, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain the reductions in household energy bills. The pressure hasn’t let up: Brussels is still trying to break the Hungarians. Our task is to protect the interests of the Hungarian people and to resist blackmail. Türkiye is our key partner in this.
