I have ordered reinforcement of protection of critical energy infrastructure

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has ordered the reinforcement of the protection of critical energy infrastructure; the Prime Minister reported on this development in a video posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday after the meeting of the Defence Council.

The Prime Minister said the meeting of the Defence Council, which he had convened due to the Ukrainian oil blockade, had just finished. Since 27 January, oil shipments to Hungary via the Druzhba crude oil pipeline have stopped.

“It is clear on the basis of the available data that the suspension of shipments is due not to technical, but political reasons; the Ukrainian government is seeking to put pressure on Hungary and Slovakia with the oil blockade,” he explained.

Mr Orbán also said he heard the reports of the national security services, and concluded that Ukraine might prepare for further action with a view to disrupting the operation of Hungary’s energy system.

“Therefore, I have ordered the reinforcement of the protection of critical energy infrastructure. This means that we will deploy soldiers and also equipment necessary to ward off any attacks in the vicinity of key energy facilities. The police will intensify patrols in the vicinity of designated power stations, substations and control centres with greater forces. At the same time, in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County I have ordered a ban on drone traffic,” the Prime Minister listed the measures introduced.

“Hungary cannot be blackmailed,” Mr Orbán stated.
