It is government’s duty to fully support foster parents and through them children, too

It is the government’s duty to fully support foster parents and through them also children in need of foster parents, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said a video posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday evening.

“Dear Foster Parents, Attention please. At its meeting today, the government adopted important decisions which have a fundamental impact on your mission and work. This action plan consists of three parts,” the Prime Minister said.

Regarding the details, Mr Orbán said “first of all, we will double the base fees of foster parents. Secondly, we have made foster parents eligible for the base fee for each child in their care instead of the earlier lower supplementary fee. And finally thirdly, we are also doubling the extra fees of parents raising special needs children and children with disabilities made available in connection with their education.

“Every Hungarian child is a new sentinel, we must take good care of them, and we owe gratitude to the people – foster parents – who undertake the responsibility of raising them. It is the government’s duty to fully support foster parents and through them also children in need of foster parents. This is what these measures are about. We’d like to thank them for their work and wish them all the very best,” the Prime Minister said.
