In the video, Mr Orbán said inflation has proved to be higher than projected, and therefore, at times like this, pensions are increased.
“Short reckonings make long friends, we promised that pensions cannot be allowed to depreciate, we have delivered on this pledge of ours every year so far, and this will be no different this year either,” he stated.
The Prime Minister added: everyone will receive an amount adjusted to their pension, an average sum of HUF 51,000.
“This is a great thing, people everywhere in Europe try to economise, when it comes to paying for anything, they’re reluctant because their money has been sent to Ukraine. If your money is in Ukraine, you can’t raise pensions, you can’t help families and young people, but we won’t allow the Hungarian people’s money to be sent to Ukraine. This is why there is now increased family support, this is why we’re able to launch a housing programme for young people, and this is why pensioners, too, receive what they’re entitled to. Additionally, today, it’s International Day of Older Persons. Long live pensioners,” Mr Orbán said.
