Government is working to ward off another rise in energy prices

The government is working to ward off another rise in energy prices, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday.

“We’re in the break of the cabinet meeting where we’re discussing how to ward off yet another rise in energy prices. Given that Brussels is planning to ban the importation of Russian oil and Russian gas to Hungary,” the Prime Minister said.

“The Russo-Ukrainian war and the flawed sanctions have already pushed European energy prices sky-high. Additionally, we have the Middle East war situation on our necks as well. Therefore, the future of the industries of European countries are in danger,” he added.

Mr Orbán highlighted that introducing further restrictions in such a situation, barring ourselves from cheap Russian energy carriers was highly irresponsible. From the viewpoint of European industry, European businesses and European families, nothing justifies the plan to bar ourselves from the possibility of cheap energy supply.

“The truth is that the Brussels bureaucrats have a single reason: they want to continue the war in Ukraine,” the Prime Minister stated.

He said at the beginning of the week in Brussels “we slammed on the brakes,” but the Brussels bureaucrats had not given up and today they came up with new plans.

“Today, we’re developing appropriate counter-measures,” Mr Orbán said.

“Brussels kowtowed to Ukraine, and would sacrifice Hungarian families and the Hungarian economy for supporting Ukraine further. Thank you, but no thank you, we don’t want any of this. For us Hungary comes first, not Ukraine,” the caption reads under the video.
