We will prevent realisation of Ukrainian energy threat

If the Ukrainian energy threat were realised, then an average electricity bill of 7,000 forints so far would increase to 14,000 forints, while a gas bill of 16,000 forints would increase to 54,000 forints. We will prevent this, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stressed on his Facebook account on Saturday.

In the video posted on his social media account, the Prime Minister said, due to the Ukrainian energy threat, he was compelled to convene an extraordinary economic consultation. Brussels is determined to help the Ukrainians even at the expense of destroying Hungarian and European families in the process, he added. Brussels intends to turn off the gas tap and to stop oil consignments from Russia, he stated.

This would result in an excess expenditure of HUF 800 billion for Hungary, this sum is the equivalent of the reduction of household energy bills itself, the Prime Minister said, adding that “this is by how much we support Hungarian families every year.”

If this were to happen, then an electricity bill of seven thousand forints so far would increase to fourteen thousand forints, while a gas bill of sixteen thousand forints so far would increase to fifty-four thousand forints, he said, observing that “consumers will see this in their own bills from September.”

Mr Orbán said this can be prevented in one single way, if the Hungarian government prevents the relevant EU decision in Brussels. “This is, however, only possible if you support this yourselves,” he pointed out. “This is why it is important that you should all take part in the Vote2025 opinion vote and send back your ballot papers if you haven’t yet done so. This is a crucial issue for every Hungarian family,” he stressed.
