If Ukraine is given EU membership, there will be no money left to bring home

If Ukraine is given EU membership, there will be no money left to bring home; it’s either one or the other, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated on his social media account on Thursday.

Mr Orbán said in a video posted on his Facebook account that Hungary’s future over a period of 15 to 20 years could stand or fall on the issue of Ukraine’s EU membership.

“There is a decision, I could even say an order in Brussels which they’re not even hiding as the president of the Commission, our common friend Ursula von der Leyen, announced in the European Parliament that Ukraine must join the EU by 2030. That’s less than five years away. So, it’s knocking at our door,” he pointed out, adding that if this happens “it’s all over” for our agriculture and for EU funds as well.

“If anyone claims that they will bring home the EU funds and supports Ukraine’s EU membership at the same time, they’re evidently lying because if Ukraine is granted EU membership, there will be no money left to bring home,” Mr Orbán said.
