Facebook statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

What is happening now at Hungarian petrol stations is scandalous, perhaps even outrageous. In recent days there have been negative developments in the sphere of Europe’s energy supply. The Ukrainians have shut off a pipeline through which gas was entering Hungary, and the outgoing US presidential administration has imposed sanctions that are also driving up energy prices in Europe. Europe is hurtling towards another energy crisis. Hungary should stay out of this, but this isn’t easy, because what’s happening at Hungarian petrol stations is already scandalous, perhaps even outrageous. Our task now is to protect the only remaining gas pipeline bringing gas from Russia to Hungary. This pipeline comes to Hungary via Serbia. It is in our common interest to work together to protect our families, our households and our businesses from ever higher energy prices. This is what we’ll be discussing with President Vučić today.
