No mercy for paedophile perpetrators: this is my personal conviction. A debate has arisen about the power to issue presidential pardons. Here, however, one shouldn’t engage in legal argumentation, but create a clear situation with a clear, unambiguous decision. I have five children and six grandchildren, and if someone were to lay a hand on them, my first thought would be that their molester should be cut in half or cut into pieces. So we need to create a clear situation. On behalf of the Government, I’ve tabled an amendment to the Constitution which will make it impossible to pardon the perpetrator of a crime against a child. It’s time to settle this issue.
