Coming years will be about defending our sovereignty

On Thursday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received members of the Hungarian Diaspora Council; in his welcome address and also during the informal discussion held thereafter, he and his invited guests spoke about the threats posed to Hungary’s security and sovereignty, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

According to the Prime Minister, the coming 10 to 15 years will be about defending sovereignty; not only in Hungary, but also in a number of other regions around the world.

As expected, there will be a major debate about the sovereignty protection legislation about to be presented to Parliament; however, we must set up clear prohibitions in order to prevent foreign actors from influencing the outcome of elections in Hungary with funds coming from abroad, he laid down.

He said a further task – with which he also requested the support of the delegates representing scattered Hungarian communities around the world – is “to preserve Hungary as one of the world’s safest countries even amidst the present wartime and migration challenges”.
