The heat is on in Brussels! I am here in Spain for another extraordinary summit of European Union prime ministers. Although we are thousands of kilometres away, it is clear from here that the heat is on in Brussels. The bureaucrats are making one mistake after another, and today it is hard to sweep this under the carpet. Only three years of the seven-year budget have passed, and Brussels is already trying to force the Member States to pay more money, because it wants to give more money to the Ukrainians for the war, and more money to the migrants. Meanwhile the Migration Pact, the “panacea” for migration imposed on us three months ago, has also failed. The situation is getting worse; the situation at the borders is getting more and more dramatic. In Hungary migrants are already shooting at our border guards on our southern borders. There is a war in our neighbourhood, and now Brussels has come up with the idea of giving Ukraine unconditional war money for another four years. Instead of a ceasefire, they want arms supplies; instead of peace, the money would support prolonged killing. Hungary is not supplying weapons; we want a ceasefire and peace. The situation is clear: Brussels is losing control. In a few months there will be elections in Europe; and instead of their work, the bureaucrats are already paying attention to what will happen to them, and what will happen to their jobs and careers. They are self-serving. In such a situation, there is no way Hungary can support a hasty, ill-considered budget amendment. We must persuade the bureaucrats in Brussels to return to their desks and do their jobs properly!
