Without civic circles Hungary would not be this successful and strong

At the 20^th jubilee meeting of the City Civic Salon in Budapest, Prime Minister-Fidesz President Viktor Orbán spoke about the importance of the role of civic circles and strong local communities, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

At the jubilee meeting which was also attended by Mayor of Budapest’s 5^th district Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi and former mayor-cabinet chief of the Prime Minister Antal Rogán, Mr  Orbán said what has happened in the past two decades in Cukor utca in the 5^th district stands as an example for the whole country, “we must build such communities everywhere; our opponents would then never be able to divert Hungary off  the course of growth.” He added that he had always regarded the City Civic Salon as a model for civic circles, clubs and salons. The President of Fidesz highlighted that the Right had led the 5^th district for 17 years; he also recalled the period of the formation of civic circles, praising the roles of individuals such as Imre Kerényi and Imre Makovecz in the establishment of this national community. Without civic circles, Hungary could not be the successful and strong country that it has become, and Fidesz would not be in government either, Mr Orbán laid down. This will also have significance in the 2024 and 2026 elections as in the absence of local “bastions” big national political battles cannot be won either, the party president said, concluding his jubilee address.
