In a video posted on his social media account, Mr Orbán said the summit of the leaders of the European Union’s Member States was to begin shortly in Brussels.
“Everyone here in Brussels is asking a single question: Where has all the money gone?” he asked in his post.
In continuation, the Prime Minister explained that the European Commission had submitted a proposal for the amendment of the budget, asking the Members States to contribute “further hundreds of billions.”
In Mr Orbán’s words, the question is how this situation could arise, how the European Union could be driven to the verge of bankruptcy.
Listing the most significant items, he said they want EUR 50 billion from the Member States in order to give it to Ukraine, “while they are still unable to account for the money we have given them so far.”
They want a lot of money from the Member States in order to be able to pay the interest on the loans taken out by the European Union earlier, he added.
Mr Orbán observed that these were the loans of which Poland and Hungary “had not seen a penny” so far.
The Prime Minister said it is frivolous that they are demanding more money from us for migration, but rather than for the protection of the borders, for bringing in migrants, and “naturally, neither have they forgotten about themselves, they’re asking for billions of euros for raising the salaries of the bureaucrats in Brussels.”
Mr Orbán laid down: the Hungarian position is clear, we first want to know on what they have spent “that enormous amount of money we have paid in so far.” “Afterwards, we want an answer to the question: who is responsible for the fact that the European Union finds itself on the verge of bankruptcy?” he said in conclusion.
