We will not allow Hungary to be destroyed for Ukraine’s benefit

The goal of Brussels is to ensure that multinationals make good money and the Ukrainians have enough money for the war, but the price of all that should, of course, be paid by Hungarian families, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on his Facebook account on Thursday, stressing that we will not allow Hungary to be destroyed for Ukraine’s benefit.

The Prime Minister recalled that „every year, Brussels makes recommendations for each country in order for things to improve,” they issue so-called “country-specific recommendations” “in order for ‘economic policy coordination’ to improve within the EU.”

The Prime Minister summarised “the recommendations made to Hungary from the Brussels witches’ kitchen.” He wrote that they called upon Hungary to put an end to the reduction of household energy bills and to do away with Russian natural gas and crude oil.

“It’s logical that from Brussels it looks better if they can claw the price of providing support for Ukraine from the Hungarian people,” the Prime Minister observed.

According to Mr Orbán, neither does the European Commission like the fact that they protect families against profiteers with interest caps, price caps and profit margin restrictions. “Brussels takes the view that that money would be in a better place with banks and multinationals,” Mr Orbán wrote, observing that the Commission likewise does not like the targeted special taxes and extra profit taxes, and they say that “it would be best if we got rid of these as well.”

“According to the bureaucrats, Hungarian housing grants are overly generous and not targeted enough, and they therefore distort the housing market. They would abolish these, too,” the Prime Minister listed.

He added that nor did the Commission like the way they had transformed vocational training and the system of unemployment benefits. “They elegantly turn a blind eye to the fact that since we introduced these, the number of people with jobs in Hungary has increased by a million,” he observed.

“We know why they do this: so that multinationals make good money and the Ukrainians have enough money for the war, but the price of all that should, of course, be paid by Hungarian families,” the Prime Minister stated in summary.
