Mr Orbán highlighted: the country needs not change, not adventures, not experiments, not young people’s ambition, but experience and security. “I agree – if you support me – to give this to Hungary,” he stated.
What we need today is a clear head, cold blood and a firm hand, he said, adding that today Fidesz is the safe choice.
He observed: Tisza can wait, life is not just two days.
He recalled that when the war broke out and Ukraine was attacked, Hungary let in all the fleeing Ukrainians. We provided shelter, food and jobs for them, we set up schools for them and are paying for them to this day so that Ukrainian children in Hungary can study in their own mother tongue, while they themselves are closing down Transcarpathia’s Hungarian-language schools. We did everything we could for the Ukrainians, our Christian conscience is clear in this regard, he said.
He observed: we do not get offended by the fact that meanwhile they are ungrateful, are continually making demands and want things that would destroy Hungary. We are not shaking our fists at people in trouble even if they are threatening us, he said, laying down at the same time that instead we clearly say: ‘Dear Ukrainians, we won’t destroy Hungary for your sake.’
“We will not give our children, we will not give our sons, and neither will we give our weapons and money,” Mr Orbán laid down.
He also said the Ukrainians have turned Hungary into an area of secret service operations, their spies are in and out of the offices of journalists and the Tisza Party. They are giving Tisza money, support, assets, IT systems and political support so that a pro-Ukraine government be formed in Hungary.
Turning to the Tisza supporters who appeared at the event, he said they are pushing the Ukrainians’ cart, rather than standing with the Hungarians; they want a pro-Ukraine government and want to take the Hungarians’ money to Ukraine.
In his speech, Mr Orbán suggested to members of the electorate that they renew the anti-war alliance that was concluded in 2022. He said the Russo-Ukrainian war is continuing, a war broke out in the Middle East, the price of energy is sky-high, a wave of migration involving millions is threatening us, and in the next four years, we will have to face all these threats at once.
“We need a government which is able to protect Hungary’s interests even amidst such circumstances,” he underlined.
He recalled: in 1989, they were able to say no to the Soviets, in 2015-2016, at the time of the migration crisis, they were able to say no to the Germans, and in 2022, they were able to say no to the war to Brussels. “In 2026, we and only we are able to say no to the Ukrainians, to preserve Hungary’s peace, security and the chance of economic growth,” he laid down.
In his speech, the Prime Minister encouraged everyone to support Dávid Fekete and Szabolcs Szeles, the local candidates of Fidesz-Christian Democratic People’s Party.
Regarding the Tisza supporters who appeared at the event, he said they did not come because they have a shared passion with us; they came in order to spoil our evening, but we will not allow them to do that, our evening cannot be spoilt. He added: they wish Tisza supporters that may they, too, once experience that loving and standing in unity is good.
Győr is a fantastic and strong city, without Győr there is no strong government, you cannot govern Hungary against Győr and neither can you govern Hungary without Győr, he stated. Those who want to work in and in the vicinity of the city have jobs, unemployment is under two per cent, this is the essence of workfare society, he listed the data.
He stressed: while in 2010 just 3.6 million people had jobs in Hungary, today as many as 4.7 million do. He pledged – should the people vest him with their trust – that by the end of the next four years, five million people will have jobs and the average income will be above a million forints.
The past four years have been extremely unfair, there have been troubles in Hungary that we are not responsible for, he pointed out. They have been compelled to pull through the past four years in the shadow of the war. Had there not been a war, with this much work Hungary would have been able to make progress two to three times faster, he indicated.
He highlighted that the government had nonetheless fought hard, had set goals despite the difficult circumstances which it had tried to achieve. He recalled that in 2022 he pledged for the event of his election to keep Hungary out of the war. “We pledged it and we did it,” he said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the fact that they restored the thirteenth monthly and began to introduce the fourteenth monthly pension. He observed: they did not allow anyone to force us to surrender the concept of the workfare economy, they continuously implemented projects and created new jobs, for which credit goes primarily to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó.
He pointed out: neither have they given up on the concept that life in Hungary will only be happy, serene and balanced if families are given the recognition they deserve. They have likewise not surrendered the plan that those who decide to have children should not be any worse off than those who do not. In this regard, he mentioned that they had doubled the tax benefit available in relation to children, and “we broke a world record, Dear Tisza Supporters” because in the whole world mothers with minimum two children only receive lifelong tax exemption in Hungary. He further recalled that in the shadow of the war, “despite the Tisza Party’s constant obstruction,” they created an opportunity for young people to buy their first homes with the fixed 3 per cent housing credit programme. Today, in the whole of Europe, young Hungarians have the easiest access to home ownership, Mr Orbán pointed out.
