In a video message posted after the cabinet meeting, Mr Orbán said the extreme weather in January has put Hungary to the test, and we successfully passed last week’s “snow test.” In the unusually cold weather, we took care of the supply of firewood and made available warm shelter for everyone, he added. The Prime Minister said the required quantity of firewood and heated shelter will also be available in the weeks ahead. However, the freezing cold weather has also brought with it high heating bills, imposing a heavy burden on families.
Mr Orbán explained, justifying the introduction of the household energy bill cap for January, that everyone was facing unexpected and significant extra expenses. The household energy bill cap means that the government will assume from families the costs of the excess consumption emerging due to heating in January, the Prime Minister explained. The unusually cold winter is not over yet, and therefore Mr Orbán asked everyone to take good care of themselves and to also take good care of each other.
