In answer to a question, Mr Orbán said he is not expecting to receive any assistance from Brussels, “we Hungarians must resolve the problem of the Ukrainian oil blockade; Brussels is, in actual fact, colluding with the Ukrainians, they’re on the Ukrainians’ side […]. Whatever they’re saying, what we see is nothing more than an act, a charade.”
He confirmed that he would not support any decision concerning Ukraine until the Hungarians received their oil. “We would like to receive the oil that is rightfully ours and that the Ukrainians are currently withholding. I will not support any decision that would benefit Ukraine until the Hungarians receive the oil that is rightfully theirs,” he said.
Answering a question relating to the resolution of the present stalemate, Mr Orbán said “we’re not speculating because once we have received our oil, the situation will have been resolved.” He said that he sees no progress on the matter.
In answer to another question, the Prime Minister also spoke about the fact that the MEPs of the Tisza Party “usually sit here in the European Parliament wearing Ukrainian strips;” that they are pro-Ukraine is evident to every Hungarian.
“The Tisza Party is pro-Ukraine. They’re wearing the Ukrainian strip, we didn’t put it on them. So, I think it’s evident to every Hungarian that they’re pro-Ukraine, wearing Ukrainians flags or publicly waving Ukrainian flags,” he pointed out.
Regarding energy prices, he said the Thursday meeting will also cover the fact that we are facing an oil and world economic crisis which could affect Europe the most severely. “Today, we must debate how to ward this off,” Mr Orbán said, adding that Hungary has its own national means, but – as he stressed – there is a need for a European solution.
In response to a question concerning the fact that the German foreign minister threatened Hungary with serious consequence due to the retention of the loan intended for Ukraine, Mr Orbán said we have already seen things like this before, the Germans did not come out of them well, they should stop now.
Regarding a debate between candidates for prime minister, Mr Viktor laid down: he only debates with sovereign people.
