Supermarket chains put enormous profits on food stuffs. We had to intervene, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Sunday in a video posted on the Hungarian government’s Facebook page. 

He added that supermarket chains had put an extra 42 per cent on the price of chicken wings, 55 per cent on pork loin, 68 per cent on milk, 129 per cent on sour cream, 38 per cent on eggs, 69 per cent on cheese curd and 70 per cent on yoghurt. 

We had to intervene, he stressed.

We could not idly watch the people being robbed any further, we had to tell those who were responsible for price increases to stop, to venture no further, the Prime Minister stated.
