Speech by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the opening event of CPAC Hungary 2025

Last year I stood here and said that Donald Trump would win the US presidential election. He won. Next year there will be elections in Hungary. Are there any more questions?

Good morning, Friends, CPAC Attendees – old and new.

Welcome! Welcome back everyone! We are in great company this year. No one in Europe today could bring together a better gathering. Thank you for coming here to be with us. Today we have the strongest patriotic, sovereign political leaders in Europe. And many from America are here too. The toughest, the most determined, and the most experienced leaders. People who have been fighting for their countries in international politics for decades. People who have endured countless attacks, savagery and smear campaigns. There are people here who know that there is no victory without suffering – who know that victory is not only something you have to work for, but also something you have to suffer for. President Trump’s example shows us just this. European liberals and progressives could not endure half of what our leaders have endured. They endured, stood their ground and, when they had to, stood up and won. European liberals would be reduced to tears if they were subjected to half the intensity of these attacks – they would run for cover and hide behind the skirts of progressive journalists. Our leaders have not only stayed on their feet, but they have done fantastic things in their own countries.

Here is our friend Matt Schlapp, the epitome of perseverance. He has made CPAC a global brand. When this conference approaches, liberals everywhere flatten their ears, tuck in their tails and retreat. During the Biden era, it was he who recognised that the fountainhead of conservative intellectual renewal was in central Europe. He realised that what we can do here on a small scale, on the scale of Hungary, can be done on a large scale – in America. He brought CPAC’s first European meeting to Hungary. It is thanks to him and our friend Miklós Szánthó that we are here today. Thank you very much!

And here with us is Irakli Kobakhidze, a hero of the international patriotic movement in Georgia. He won an election against the entire world, against the entire liberal world. He defeated the progressives. They rarely get a beating like that. And in the process he has created the biggest economic boom in Europe. And, my friends, all the while 20 per cent of his country has been under the feet of the Russian bear. He has not allowed Brussels to squeeze his country into war. He has not allowed it to become a second Ukraine. What a victory! What a success! Welcome, Irakli!

And here is our Macedonian hero, Hrisztijan Mickoski. He won the election, my friends, with the whole of Brussels supporting his opponent. He is our fortress captain, defending Europe’s southern borders against migration. Vivat Macedonia!

And today, Ladies and Gentlemen, Prime Minister Robert Fico will be speaking to us. Let us not forget, he is the toughest of us all. He was shot five times, receiving a hail of bullets. The liberal gang, whipped up into a rebellious frenzy, put five bullets in him. And here he is today, fighting as if nothing had happened. The world has never seen anything like it! He is Europe’s greatest comeback. Thank you, Robert, for showing us an example!

And here we have Andrej Babiš, the former and future prime minister of the Czech Republic. Dear Andrej, what fights we have been in over the years, long into those nights in Brussels! We had to fight against the pro-migration prime ministers, who were in a huge majority. Andrej, today Hungary is a migrant-free zone. We could not have done it without you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you back there again!

And welcome to Santiago Abascal, our Spanish hero. My friends, today in Spain we are suffering the most brutal repression. True, the French and Germans are rivalling it, but what is happening in Spain is unprecedented! If it were a fair contest, VOX would long ago have formed the government in Spain. But that moment is not far off. Dear Santiago, Good day, Captain!

And, Friends, I ask us to embrace Mateusz Morawiecki. He comes from a true battlefield. Sunday will see a presidential election in Poland. Nawrocki forever! If you want to know, Friends, what real liberal democracy is, ask him. The things that are happening in Poland are unbelievable: every European rule and every constitutional principle is being trampled underfoot. And Brussels tolerates it. Tolerates it? Brussels supports it! What a disgrace! I have been in European politics for thirty-five years, but never in my life have I seen anything as disgraceful as what is being done to the Poles, what they are doing to PiS. For this alone, the leadership in Brussels should step down. Welcome Mateusz!

And here with us is Federal Chairwoman Alice Weidel, representing the Europe of Sovereign Nations party family. Madam Chairwoman, your visit is particularly important to us. We all know that our main opponent in Brussels is a German: Herr Weber – Hungarophobic, petty and vindictive. And it is good for us Hungarians to see that there are decent Germans who love their country more than Brussels. Welcome, Madam Chairwoman!

My friends, we also have a great warrior from Austria: Herbert Kickl. At his invitation, in Vienna we laid the foundation stone of the Patriots, the stone upon which this great party has since been built. If there were any justice, today the Chancellor of Austria would be called Herbert Kickl. He won the election, and they simply stole the Chancellorship from him. Dear Herbert, politics may not be fair, it may not always be fair, but believe me, it possesses moral balance. Your time will come, and we will enjoy a great celebration in Vienna, when Austria returns to the club of patriotic countries. Welcome!

And somewhere among us there is a man who is the bravest fighter in Europe. He has endured extraordinary hardships. He never talks about it – because he is modest and because he is Dutch. You know, the Dutch think it is unbecoming to talk about personal feelings. Our Dutch hero lives in constant danger, under the shadow of threats, protected by bodyguards, without a moment of peace – or maybe only here in Hungary. He is top of the fanatics’ blacklist. Meanwhile, from his own leftist, progressive compatriots he receives not a kind word – only attacks. A man who does not complain, but only serves – steadfastly and unflinchingly. Welcome! We are proud of you, Geert Wilders!

And we have French, Israeli and Middle Eastern Christians guests, the House Speaker from Paraguay and Tony Abbott from Australia. All great fighters and great people. I welcome you too. Welcome to Hungary!

My Friends,

What a difference a year has made: a real civilizational turnaround! Donald Trump has won, the Trump tornado has swept across the world and changed it completely. He has given hope back to the world. We are no longer drowning in a sea of woke. We are not overrun by migrants. He gave us back the hope of a normal life. He gave us back the hope of peace. There are many who have helped him. Congratulations to those who were there for this fantastic American victory. It is the greatest comeback the Western world has ever seen: the one, big, beautiful comeback.

And that, Dear Friends, is a slap in the face to the Left, signalling that he is not only back, but doing what he promised his voters. I, too, look on in disbelief. Is this possible? Is this possible outside Hungary? President Trump’s first 100 days have been a real truth serum – not only for America, but for the whole Western world. “Are you here illegally? Go home!” He has abolished gender regulations. He has banished critical race theory. He has banned woke ideology from the military. He has brought the Deep State down, and exposed the global liberal network. Everything we thought was true turned out to be true: covert agents, shadow institutions, money laundering machinery, and the funding of politics and politicians in foreign countries – including Hungary. The whole Soros Empire is standing naked before us. The Emperor has no clothes! Quite an ugly sight.

My Friends, light is finally shining into the darkest corners. There are alarmed squeals – here too, in Hungary. Here there is a new law: if you are in politics you cannot accept money from abroad. It is as simple as that. And the hope of peace has returned. Let us hope that soon hundreds will not have to die on the front line every day. Let us hope that cities will not have to be bombarded to ruins. And let us hope we do not have to pour billions of dollars into an unwinnable war. Donald Trump’s victory and the liberals’ fall is like a dream. The United States can be saved, and the American Dream can return.

But what about us? What about the dream of the Europeans? We also had a dream. Our European dream was that if we – the peoples of Europe – united, there would be no more war, and we would live in prosperity and security. We would work together, the sovereign states would unite, and we would create the world’s safest and most developed continent. That would be the European Union, European integration. But, my friends, this dream has been hijacked. It has been hijacked by Brussels, which has derailed our future. Instead of the European dream, we have a nightmare. The people of Europe do not feel safe in their own countries, in their own cities, on their own streets. They have become strangers in places where twenty years ago they were at home. It is simple mathematics: they are being pushed out of their cities. This is not integration, it is organised population replacement. Instead of European prosperity, companies are going bust. We pay twice and four times as much for electricity and natural gas respectively as they do in the United States. The Green Deal is killing our economies, and is becoming a parody. And now, when we are supposed to be negotiating trade and tariffs with a heavyweight US president, it turns out that we have only featherweight leaders. And so much for European freedom. In Europe things are getting brutal. The most vicious power struggle is in progress: they deny both God and man. Le Pen has been disqualified from the French presidential race by a court ruling. Salvini has been dragged to court. The AfD is under national security surveillance. Patriots for Europe events are violently obstructed. Communist and leftist thugs attack those on the Right. JD Vance put it correctly: in Europe today, freedom is not being threatened from without, but is being attacked from within. And everyone can see that there is trouble. The whole structure is tottering and crumbling. It must change. Things cannot go on like this! And our opponents know it too.

My Friends,

Two plans are on the table. One is the liberal plan, and the other is the patriotic plan for Europe. The liberal plan sees the old, cultural, Christian Europe as obsolete. They want to move beyond it. For decades they have been working to fabricate a new identity to replace Christianity and the nation. At first, I remember, they came with the promise of prosperity: “Let go of your traditions, and Europe will be a world of happy and unrestrained consumption.” That did not work. Then came the idea that Europe would be a continent of “inclusion”. And we got to the point where Belgium–Israel national football matches had to be played in Budapest instead of Brussels. And now, after Trump’s victory, here is another idea: Europe wants to be the bastion of the global liberal empire. After Washington, their new Mecca is Brussels.

My Friends,

But the main problem with Brussels is not that it is dominated by progressive liberal bureaucrats. The main problem is that Brussels is pro-war. While the United States has finally become pro-peace, Brussels is stuck in war. The liberal plan is to centralise Europe under the pretext of war. If there is war, there is more Brussels, and even less sovereignty. The liberal plan is that Europe must build a new economic model, a war economy model, under the pretext of war. In their minds war will be the engine of the economy. Collective debt, central control and a war chest. The key to this liberal plan is Ukraine. Ukraine’s accelerated European Union membership is a convenient pretext for Europe’s war-oriented reorganization. The liberal plan will lead to a Europe at war, centralised and mired in debt – with no freedom, but subservience.

Now this is the problem with Hungary! Hungarians are a free breed, we thrive on freedom, and we do not take kindly to bending the knee. Instead of subservience and submission, we Hungarians follow our own thinking. We also have a plan – a patriotic plan. It consists of four points. First, we want peace. We do not need a new eastern front, and therefore we do not need Ukraine’s membership of the European Union. Secondly, we want sovereignty. We do not want collective taxes, we do not want collective borrowing and we do not want central economic control. And we do not want our money to be sent to a war in a third country. Thirdly, we must defend freedom. We must give people back their freedom in politics, freedom of thought and of opinion. And fourth, we want to take Europe back from migrants. We want a Christian culture, schools standing on a national basis, and streets and neighbourhoods without fear. We want to be proud of our nations. This is the patriotic plan.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

Today, and for a few years to come, European politics will be about which plan wins. This battle must be won first by everyone at home, and then together in Brussels. Last year’s European elections were a resounding success. If I add up the three groups on the Right, we are bigger than the EPP [European People’s Party]. Of course, politics is not just mathematics, but the perspective is clear. We need to work together – slowly, step by step, surely. By the time the decisive battle comes, we must be united. But for now, Dear Friends, we must all win at home: for the Poles, Dear Mateusz, this Sunday; for the Czechs, Dear Andrei, in the autumn; for us next spring; and then for the French. Then we will have arrived. Then we can begin to take Brussels back into the hands of the patriots. For this we need America. We need President Trump’s successful administration. We need the dismantling of the American and Brussels liberal collusion, the transatlantic deep state. We need the shutting of the American liberal financial sluice gates. In other words, European and American patriots need each other. The mission is clear. The task is not complicated: each of us must go home and win our own election. We just have to win. The rest will take care of itself, like a charm. After America, we Europeans will regain our dreams, and take Brussels.

Make Europe great again! Go Hungary, go Patriots! God save Hungary!
