Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with Qatari Prime Minister

On Thursday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, with whom he conducted talks about economic and energy cooperation and the chances of a pro-peace policy, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

In August 2023 during a visit by the Emir of Qatar to Budapest, Hungary and Qatar elevated relations between the two countries to a strategic level. Qatar’s national development strategy for the period between 2024 and 2030 opens a wide range of investment opportunities in the areas of manufacture, logistics, information technology, finances, health care and education, and Hungary has a vested interest in Hungarian businesses, too, taking advantage of these expanding business opportunities.

The two prime ministers also spoke about the fact that Qatar is the world’s second largest LNG and third largest natural gas exporter, and so in the future, there will be major opportunities for enhancing the two countries’ energy cooperation, Mr Havasi said, adding that Mr Orbán thanked his guest for the Qatari efforts made in the interest of the release of the Hungarian hostages taken by Hamas.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also praised Qatar’s peace efforts in respect of both regional conflicts and the war in Ukraine. We are proud that together with Qatar we belong to the global pro-peace majority, he said.
