“The miracle of Hanukkah has for millennia preached the beautiful and hopeful truth that light always conquers darkness. I believe that there are fewer darker things than when a people cannot live in freedom, according to its own customs and traditions,” Mr Orbán wrote, adding that “the victory of the Maccabees reminds us, however, that for those who believe and proudly persevere with their roots, anything is possible.”
“Please allow me to respectfully greet you on the holiday of light and wish you this at the time of Hanukkah this year: May Hanukkah bring an era of peace and happiness for every Jewish community here at home the same as in the other countries of Europe and throughout the world,” Mr Orbán wrote in conclusion in his festive letter which was sent to the leaders of Jewish organisations in Hungary also this year.
