Pope Leo XIV received Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at private audience

On Monday, Pope Leo XIV received Prime Minister Viktor Orbán who – after the private audience – also met with Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See’s Secretariat of State. 

According to the Holy See’s press release, during the talks held in a cordial atmosphere, the parties spoke highly of the firmness of bilateral relations and the commitment of the Catholic Church to promoting the social development and welfare of the Hungarian community, with special regard to the role of the family, the education and future of young people, and the importance of protecting the most vulnerable Christian communities. 

At the meeting, the parties also spoke at length about topical international issues, focusing especially on the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, they added.
