It is crucial that we do not admit Ukrainians to European Union

It is crucial that we do not admit the Ukrainians to the European Union; if Ukraine were a member, the European Union would already be at war, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stressed on Tuesday in Szentendre.

The activist meeting held in the city was also attended by Government Spokesperson Eszter Vitályos who is Fidesz’s candidate at the 2026 parliamentary elections.

The Prime Minister highlighted: it must be made absolutely clear that this will be a crucial election in that we will elect not only a government, but also a fate for ourselves.

He added that the fate of Hungary could be decided for ten, twenty or even thirty years because European leaders had decided that they would go to war sometime between 2026 and 2030. A decision on this has been made, he pointed out.

The most important dilemma facing the Hungarian community in the next four years will be the issue of the war and the political challenge posed by direct involvement in the war, the Prime Minister recalled, adding that this is what those whom the people will elect will have to decide on.

“I’m saying that we will elect not simply a government, but a fate because involvement in the war is very similar to migration,” he stressed, adding that there is no jumping in and out, once you have entered, you are in it.

If the general public atmosphere does not force European leaders to withdraw from the intention of going to war, then Hungary will only have a single choice to stay out, the Prime Minister pointed out, adding that between 2026 and 2030, the Parliament and government of the day will have to make a very difficult decision on what Hungary’s position should be in the event of an open Russian-European conflict.

Mr Orbán highlighted: he suggests that already now we elect a parliament in which those are in the majority who can say no to the Europeans in such a situation, who are able to persevere with the position that Hungary will not take part in this war, will not send weapons, will not send money and will not send people.

He recalled that in the 20th century the Hungarians had twice faced the question of whether we could stay out of the war. However, neither István Tisza, nor Miklós Horthy succeeded. He added that in his view, the situation would be similar between 2026 and 2030. Therefore, we need a strong Hungary and a strong political leadership which can manage the feat that two of our otherwise strong leaders and governments could not.

The final phase of staying out of the war will be when we say no to taking part in military operations, he pointed out, adding that Hungary stands for the position that if the Ukrainians enter the EU, by doing so they will take Europe into the war.

If Ukraine were a member today, then all of us would already be at war, he said, adding that we are looking for a form of cooperation with the Ukrainians which is equally good for them and for us; however, membership is not such a form. Rather than giving the Ukrainians membership rights, we must sit down and talk to them about cooperation, a contract with which we can help Ukraine and in which Ukraine does not ask for anything that would destroy us, he stated, adding that we should call this strategic partnership.

Regarding the parliamentary elections, Mr Orbán said in the 60 days before the elections, activists will have to knock on the door of every supporter because mobilisation will decide the outcome of the elections.

He highlighted that at first sight, the opponents appeared to be Hungarian political parties, but this was not the situation, Tisza and DK [Democratic Coalition] were Brussels creations. They are not our opponents, but those who stand behind them are, and these are, in actual fact, the Brussels pro-war leaders. In actual fact, we will have to win these elections against Brussels, he stressed.

Concerning the Tisza Party, he said it is not just a political force that readily complies with the Brussels war plans, but a force which otherwise represents big capital. Their candidate for minister of the economy is a banker from Erste Bank, while their man for energy issues comes from Shell, and they also have a lobbyist from London, he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these people would all support the economic policy that the extra funds must be given back to tycoons and large international corporations.

We are up against a very powerful international group which is pro-Ukraine, which represents international big capital and international-multinational corporations, and which tries to impose a puppet government, through Brussels, on the necks of the Hungarians, he pointed out.

Regarding the campaign, he said it is being led by three persons, Minister for Construction and Transport János Lázár and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, other than himself.

Mr Orbán stressed that they wanted to invite as many people to rallies and meetings as possible because in the end, the amount of work and energy put in and the level of determination would bring about victory.

He recalled that after 16 years in government, they had accomplished the work that the civic national and Christian community had expected, meaning a Christian, civic and patriotic constitution and the establishment of a work- and family-based society and economy.
