Housing support of a million forints a year to be introduced for public service workers

Housing support of a million forints a year will be introduced for public service workers, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on his Facebook account on Wednesday, during a break of the cabinet meeting.

The Prime Minister said teachers, police officers, members of the military, nurses, physicians and other public servants will be able to use the benefit for the amortisation of housing loans or down payments for new housing mortgage loans.

Mr Orbán said the social debate of the Home Start Programme has been concluded, and based on the proposals received, on Wednesday, they finalised the details of the fixed 3 per cent housing credit facility. The government also debated a new proposal on a new form of support which they will launch for public service workers. It will be possible to combine this support with the Home Start Credit facility, he indicated.

He also said that on Wednesday afternoon, they will continue working out the details, and it is to be hoped that a decision will be made in August.

“The goal is clear: we want to give everyone in Hungary an opportunity to become home owners,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
