Farmers will continue to receive water for free, whatever other ideas Brussels may have

The government will continue to provide water for farmers for free, whatever other ideas Brussels may have, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated on Wednesday.

On his Facebook account, Mr Orbán wrote we have a hot summer ahead, but preparations started in good time. A drought protection operational group was formed in May, and this morning he heard their report, he added.

According to the Prime Minister’s information, using the rainy period in May, a thousand people worked hard to store water the equivalent of a third of Lake Balaton, and to forward it to drought-stricken areas.

“Naturally, Brussels has attacked the Hungarian government for giving water to Hungarian farmers free of charge. We will not yield to any pressure, we will not give up, and so we will continue to give water to farmers free of charge, whatever other ideas Brussels may have,” Mr Orbán stressed.

The Prime Minister wrote: they will continue the work. The government will continue its water replacement efforts not only in the summer, but also in the autumn in drought-stricken areas. “For us, Hungary comes first,” Mr Orbán wrote, concluding his post.
