Budapest is the nation’s capital, not the mayor’s

Budapest is the nation’s capital, not the mayor’s, it belongs to us all. If the Budapest leadership is unable to pay the salaries of the workers of BKV (Budapest Transport Company), we will do so. There is peace, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Wednesday in conjunction with a video he posted on Facebook.

“We’re not waging a war, this is our capital. Yours, and ours, too,” the Prime Minister told Mayor of Budapest 9^th district Krisztina Baranyi in the video. The district mayor approached the Prime Minister at a Wednesday event, asking him to engage in personal talks with Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony about the fate of the capital. 

The opposition politician also said everyone can only lose in the war Mr Orbán is waging against the capital. In response, Mr Orbán said “there is no war, there is peace, I will pay the salaries; if you can’t, I will pay them, you can count on that.”
