At the Wednesday cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said at times like this, we must take care of the homeless; this is a responsibility of local governments. He asked Interior Minister Sándor Pintér whether the Operational Corps dealt with this issue at all.
The interior minister said while this is a responsibility of local governments, Attila Fülöp, the state secretary responsible for social services has been tasked with notifying all local governments. Additionally, a red alert has been issued in this area. He added that the red alert meant that they had lifted all restrictions in institutions providing for the homeless. Also at this point in time, more than 20 per cent of places are still free, “we are practically providing shelter for all homeless registered in the country as well as for anyone presenting themselves without registration.”
In the video, Mr Orbán concluded: “If I’m not mistaken, we can say that we have more places at homeless shelters than there are homeless in Hungary.”
Mr Pintér said this is indeed the case, and patrolling police officers have been instructed to transport any homeless they find in the open air to homeless shelters.
“We are also paying attention to people without shelter. Let’s take good care of each other,” the Prime Minister wrote in his post.
