President of United States is a man of common sense

International order is based on common sense, and the President of the United States is a man of common sense which is also testified to by the way Donald Trump handled the conflict between Israel and Iran, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in the Hague on Wednesday.

Arriving at the NATO summit in the Hague, Mr Orbán stressed that the President of the United States was a man of common sense which meant that new wars were being shortened, while old wars were “running out of fuel” in consequence of Donald Trump’s activities.

In answer to a question, the Prime Minister said the real threat to Europe is one that is not of a security nature. At present, the biggest threat to Europe is the loss of competitiveness. This is the real threat, Mr Orbán stated.

“The real threat is of an economic nature, the fact that we’re losing our competitiveness in global trade. This is our problem,” he pointed out.

In answer to another question, the Prime Minister said despite the fact that in the closing declarations of NATO summits Russia is identified as a threat, “Russia is not a considerable threat, we’re much stronger.”

Regarding the commitment planned to be adopted at the NATO summit – under which Member States are required to increase their defence expenditures to minimum five per cent of their gross domestic product (GDP) – Mr Orbán said while it is not easy, “we are capable of doing this.”

In order to realise this, it is necessary to change the entire formula for the fiscal regulations of the European Union, he explained. If they retain the present regulations, no one in the European Union will be able to meet the 5 per cent target. “We must re-calculate everything with a different method. If we do so, we can do it,” the Prime Minister pointed out.

Answering a question related to the Russo-Ukrainian war, the Prime Minister said “NATO has no business of any kind in Ukraine.” Ukraine is not a member of NATO, and neither is Russia.” “It is my duty to make sure that things stay the way they are,” Mr Orbán added in his statement made on arrival.
