The Defence Council meeting I called because of the unprecedented intelligence services attack on Hungary in recent days has just ended. A concerted disinformation campaign against Hungary has been launched by Ukraine in order to derail our ballot initiative on its EU membership. At today’s Defence Council meeting it also emerged that the Ukrainians have resumed cooperation with their contacts within Hungary in order to carry out the operation, and with the help of a Hungarian party have launched an attack on the Hungarian Defence Forces. In this way, a Hungarian opposition party has been playing an active role in a Ukrainian secret services operation. This has never happened before in living memory. We should expect further secret service actions to be launched before the conclusion of the consultative vote. The Hungarian services are prepared for these. We shall go ahead with the vote, because neither Brussels nor Ukraine can be allowed to decide over the heads of the Hungarians.
