Facebook statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

A government meeting. The main item on the agenda was continuing the flattening of prices. For food, we’ve succeeded in dealing with price rises, and we’ve succeeded in bringing down the prices of thirty basic foodstuffs. Now it’s the turn of banking and telecoms, where recently prices have also risen significantly. Later we’ll be negotiating with the banks. We’ve just heard the Minister for National Economy report on negotiations with the telecoms companies. These are producing results. We’ve reached agreements. The big operators won’t raise their prices before 1 July next year, and those who have already raised their prices this year will bring them back down to the level they were at on 1 January. And the largest Hungarian-owned operator has even agreed to introduce new low-price offers for retail customers. What I’m talking about applies to TV, internet and mobile phone services. The banks are preparing. We shall continue with the price cuts.
