We are facing an extremely risky period

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave a reception in honour of the members of the Hungarian Diaspora Council currently meeting in Budapest, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Evaluating the current world political situation, at the meeting the Prime Minister said regarding the US elections that the era of progressive-liberal governance has come to an end, but until Donald Trump takes office in two months’ time, the situation holds many uncertainties in America as well as in Europe, and this in itself conveys an extremely high risk.

The pro-war forces are still refusing to acknowledge the new realities on the ground. Therefore, during this period we will have to make every effort to counter an escalation in the war in Ukraine; a ceasefire and peace have never been more important than now, the Prime Minister stated.

This is also important because in light of Hungary’s new economic policy and in the interest of the successful implementation of the measures identified therein, the government has drafted a peacetime budget, based on which businesses and members of the public may be more optimistic and hopeful about the future, Mr Orbán said.

The Hungarian Diaspora Council is a joint forum for the organisations of scattered Hungarian communities from all over the world which was established by the Hungarian government in 2011.
