A busy day. This morning I had a meeting with President Xi on Hungarian-Chinese economic relations, and in the afternoon I had a meeting with President Putin of Russia. In Europe today one question is on everyone’s mind: Will there be a ceasefire in Ukraine? For us Hungarians, and for Europe as a whole, the most important thing is for there to be an end to the flood of refugees, the sanctions and the fighting in our neighbouring country. The answer I received from the Russian president was not reassuring in the least. Hungary’s actions in the coming months must be shaped with this in mind. This is why it is important for us Hungarians to maintain Hungarian-Russian cooperation on energy and other economic issues, despite the war.
