The Hungarians do not want their burdens to increase due to the war and reject left-wing austerity, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday.
In Brussels, the Prime Minister said he did not arrive empty-handed, he has with him “the weight of the opinion of 1.6 million Hungarians.”
We have behind us one of the most successful consultations of all time, the results of which are clear: the Hungarians do not want their burdens to increase due to the war and reject left-wing austerity, the Prime Minister stated.
He added: 98 per cent of people said no to progressive taxation, 97 per cent do not support the reduction of family tax benefits, and 96 per cent rejected the cancellation of the personal income tax exemption of mothers and young people. Ninety-nine per cent of people supported the reduction of household energy bills and 98 per cent said no to the raising of the corporation tax, he listed, highlighting that the Hungarians “said no to left-wing austerity with which, under pressure from Brussels, they would take the Hungarians’ money to Ukraine.”
“Well, this is what the Hungarians don’t want. We have no other job than to enforce the Hungarian people’s will at home in Budapest, in Hungary, and here in Brussels,” he said.
