Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived in Sofia to attend EU summit

On Wednesday afternoon the Prime Minister’s programme began with the summit of the European People’s Party, while the working dinner of the heads of state and government of the European Union will be held in the evening, he said.

The working meetings of the Western Balkans summit and the separate meeting of V4 Prime Ministers will take place on Thursday. Additionally Mr Orbán will also conduct bilateral talks with European leaders, Mr Havasi said.

The purpose of the Sofia summit is to give relations between the EU and the Western Balkans a new impetus. Attendees of the summit will seek to strengthen the EU’s commitment to its partners in the Western Balkans, and they further wish to draw attention to the fact that the region belongs to the European family.

They also wish to promote the enhancement of infrastructure and digital connections between the EU and the Western Balkans and to forge closer cooperation in the management of common challenges, including security, migration, geopolitical developments and good neighbourly relations.

In addition to the heads of state and government of EU Member States, the summit will be attended by the leaders of the six Western Balkans partners – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo. The meeting will be hosted by Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister of Bulgaria currently holding the rotating EU Presidency.
