Ukraine must be granted visa-free travel

On Thursday, at his arrival in Brussels at the two-day summit of EU head of states and governments, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that it would be time to do something for Ukraine and there is one thing we can do for the Ukrainians: we can grant them the possibility of visa-free travel.

The Prime Minister added that all legal obstacles have been removed, the EU, however, has been stalling political decisions for months now.

“I’m going to propose that we take the political decision which will allow every citizen of Ukraine to enter the territory of the European Union without a visa”, Mr. Orbán said.

In response to a question on the distribution of migrants among Member States based on quotas, the Prime Minister said that the Commission’s proposal currently on the table, which contains mandatory resettlement quotas, does not stand a chance of achieving consensus; Hungary shall never support it.

“It must be withdrawn, removed from the agenda, and we must resume talks from a different starting point”, Mr. Orbán underlined.
