Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s meeting with Hungarian leaders from Carpathian Basin: We must protect the results achieved

Also this year, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held his usual meeting on the eve of his address in Tusnádfürdő (Baile Tusnad) with the leaders of Hungarian organisations from the Carpathian Basin, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

The meeting was attended by President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) Hunor Kelemen, President of the Hungarian Community Party Krisztián Forró, President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians István Pásztor, President of the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Croatia Róbert Jankovics and President of the Hungarian Self-Governing Ethnic Community of Prekmurje Ferenc Horváth, while on behalf of the Hungarian government the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, János Nagy, the State Secretary heading the Office of the Prime Minister and President of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Zsolt Németh.

At the meeting, the parties agreed that the prolonged war in Ukraine is affecting not only Hungary, but also Hungarian ethnic communities beyond the borders, and therefore, there is a need for ongoing consultations in order to prevent or eliminate the ensuing negative economic and social consequences. The attendees expressed their intention to preserve the results that Hungarian nation policy has achieved in the past twelve years despite the crisis, the Prime Minister’s press chief reported.
