Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to attend Mikhail Gorbachev’s funeral

On Saturday morning, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán travelled to Moscow to pay his last respects at the bier of former Soviet head of state Mikhail Gorbachev, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

The former head of state and party general secretary will be laid to rest at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow; before the funeral, a public service will be held in the Hall of Columns of the House of the Unions in Moscow.

Members of the Hungarian delegation include Fidesz politician Tamás Deutsch, historian Mária Schmidt, Political Director Balázs Orbán and lawyer-politician Imre Kónya, the press chief reported.

Mikhail Gorbachev, the first and also last President of the Soviet Union died on 30 August aged 91 after a long illness.
