On Thursday in the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge had talks about the successful Hungarian vaccination campaign, reopening, and relations between Hungary and the World Health Organization (WHO), Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He said Hans Kluge expressed his appreciation regarding Hungary’s defence operations in the pandemic.

At the meeting, the parties agreed that the economy and life must be restarted gradually. The WHO executive repeated his opinion that schools must be the last to be closed and the first to be opened.

Mr Orbán outlined Hungary’s plans for the reopening of the country.

An exemplary vaccination campaign is being conducted in Hungary, Mr Kluge underlined, adding that the vaccine must be looked upon as a means to save lives. This topic cannot be turned into a geopolitical issue as the vaccine is the only means to conquer the pandemic, and every vaccine is effective, the WHO’s Regional Director for Europe and the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed.
