Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with US businessman Thomas Peterffy

On Tuesday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Thomas Peterffy (Péterffy Tamás), owner-founder of the Interactive Brokers Group, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

The businessman living in the United States was responsible for the establishment of the firm Timber Hill (later Interactive Brokers), the first business to introduce electronic trading at the beginning of the eighties, Mr Havasi recalled. He added that in June 2017, the Prime Minister conferred upon Mr Péterffy the Hungarian Order of Merit Grand Cross, civil section, for sponsoring the establishment of a Victims of Communism Museum in Washington as well as in recognition of his merits in the furthering of the reputation of the Hungarian people and his exemplary career.

The Tuesday meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Mihály Varga and Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Brokers Central Europe Zrt. Miklós Hanti, the press chief said.

Mr Péterffy and Mr Orbán agreed that after the paralysing restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic, every effort must be made to restart the economy within the shortest possible time as well as to protect jobs and to create new ones. During the meeting, the parties also spoke about the issue of migration, regarding which they took the view that mass illegal migration poses a threat to nations and their cultural identity.
