Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, President of Fidesz, had bilateral talks with the leaders of sister parties regarding European issues before the Thursday Sofia summit of the EU and countries of the Western Balkans and after the Wednesday meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP), Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief told the Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday in the Bulgarian capital.

He said the Prime Minister had met with former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the Forza Italia party.

“With his old friend, and an old supporter of Fidesz” he discussed topical issues of European politics, he added.

Mr Havasi said that Mr Orbán had talks with Sybrand van Haersma Buma, leader of the Dutch Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). They concluded that they share similar views on the challenges the EU is facing, migration and the core values of society.

“Europe’s future is only conceivable with the preservation of Christian culture”, they laid down.

According to the press chief’s information, Mr Orbán also met with Hristijan Mickovski, leader of the conservative Macedonian VMRO-DPMNE party with whom he discussed the European integration of the Western Balkans region.
